Other Creative Outlets

I figured I would share some of the other things I dabble in.  Well photography is my main interest, there are so many other art genres that I enjoy experimenting in or creating.  I've experimenting in jewelry making, watercolors, sewing, quilting, drawing, origami, graphic design, ceramics and much more.

Jewelry
Here is a ring I made completely from scratch.  I cut and fused the glass pieces together to form what you see above.  Next I cut out a brass design and etched into the brass.  Last I oxidized the brass for an older look.

I absolutely adore this armband that I made!   I wish I could wear it more but I'm afraid people will say or think it is a weapon.  Considering I am a substitute that is not something I want people to worry about!  I made this from scratch again, not the stone though.  It's inspired by the ancient Egyptian.  I wanted it to look like a scarab.  It is made out of brass and copper.

Sewing

I found a scarf like this on pinterest and decided to create it for a Christmas present for my best friend.  Needless to say I really like the scarf and made my own!  I know this is not the best picture, the scarf is blown out.

Watercolor

I made this birthday card for my mother for her birthday!  This was a lot of fun, but very tedious to cut out all the individual pieces.  Watercolor is fun to work with once you get used to them.

Ceramics

Below is a coffee cup I made for student teaching at a high school.  I taught the students about sagraffito (carving into non-fired dired clay).  I used red and white clay.

I had to be carefully not to break it well carving!  Of course, the handle got broken off and I thought it was repaired, but apparently it was still weak.  It ended up getting broken by a student when they held it by the handle.  The students were so upset, it was cute.  I did not blame them!  It was my fault it broke the first time which resulted in it getting broken the second.  Plus, its not like I would actually use the cup!  I wrote in Egyptian  hieroglyphics and recreated my tattoo or tried to with underglaze (its the design in the middle of the cup).

This is from high school! I loved experimenting with layering the glazes, which is how I got that bubbling look with the blue glaze on the outside.

Graphic Design

I designed this for a grad school class at Kutztown University.  It was for a dinner party.  I could invite anyone I wanted to discuss art education about over dinner.  I chose my grandmother that died when I was two years old.  She used to make quilts.  I wish she was still alive to teach me today.

*Disclaimer* The flower design is paintbrush I got off the internet.

I made these for my cousin to use for invites at her wedding.  For obviously reasons I blurred out the time and date.

ANNND....my logo!

Quilting

I made this awesome quilt for my best friend, Nikita, hence the N design.  I added her initials on the bottom of the quilt, which ironically are N.A.P.  This is a lap quilt.  I did this completely from scratch.

I made this even awesomer (I know, awesomer is not a word) quilt for my brother for his birthday and Christmas.  I made this one from a pattern, but I still made it from scratch.  It took forever to make! Thank goodness I had time off to finish it in time.

Below are pillows and letter I made for a V-day photo shoot.

Drawings

Here are some quick sketches I made from my journal.  One is a bracelet I bought from a museum in D.C. and the other is a flower clip I made from a foamy clay.  I can't remember what is was anymore.

I feel it is so much fun to experiment in art and try different things.  It is a great learning experience and a ton of fun!

Older Work

Hello again!

First off, here is my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgeMariePhotography    If you like my work, like my facebook page! Thanks in advance!

I figured I would share some of my older work from college.  As I stated in another post I went to Cazenovia College for a B.F.A. in Photography.  During that time I did a bunch of different photo shoots for class assignments and just because I could!  Some inside, some outside, some on campus, some not on campus....

I don't know if anybody reading this has been to Cazenovia, NY, but it is a beautiful little town! It has a ton of sites that are hidden gems for photo shoots   Cazenovia is an older town, that has amazing architecture, a pretty lake, and trails leading to old abandoned buildings.

Here are some pictures I took during my time there:

This picture was taken at my house for my senior project "Farm Life".  And yes, I do live on a farm and I am proud of that fact!

This is one of those cool places in Cazenovia aka Caz.  There are a bunch of windmills up there.  Let me tell you, I felt very tiny standing next to the mill.  I took this picture with a large format camera (I love large format photography).  Anywho...if you don't know what a large format camera is imagine in the old days, when the photographer would take picture under a cloth with this giant camera...yup thats a large format camera!  The film is 4x5 inches...HUGE!

I visited my sister in GA, my sophomore year and we went to Okefenokee State Park.  It's pretty awesome there! Beware of the gators though!

A little boy named Alex.  The best thing about this picture....?  He was not posing for me!

My dad.

Some eggs from the chickens.

My friend Auggie in another cool location in Caz.

This was battle of the airbands.

Kari in the studio

Lala!

Lala again! And no....she is NOT naked...she is wearing her belly dancing clothing.

My brother's best friend's farm.

The photo department and the fashion department work together for the fashion show at Caz.  I was able to photograph a student's collection. The fashion show is a HUGE deal.  The shows always sell out and they draw big names in the fashion world.

Here's a picture of me in the show:  God...I miss college...it was such fun!

So, that is a very small section of some of my photography work from college.

Photo shoots with Nikita

My best friend came to visit two weeks ago.  We did two photo shoots.  One was a weather theme and the other was her in her running gear.

Nikita in her running gear.  I wish I was as motivated to run as she is!

Nikita's so pretty! And she's a natural.  I just distracted her by talking and then snapping pictures.

Here are some random pictures from other shoots.

My sister and my kid, aka baby goat Oak!

My brother and his puppy, Jenny.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Part 2

I didn't finish the challenge yet.  I still have several more days to go...I know I did not do it in 30 days! Boooo...me!
Day 12: Portrait

My brother in his corn field, picking it for his deer....I don't get it...

Day 13: Dynamic Tension

Day 14: Light Painting

I need to do this one!

Day 15: Colorful Water Drops

This was a lot of fun! I was trying to drip the color water drops down a glass cup, but the design the dripping made was much more interesting to me.

Day 16: Balanced

Jenny likes being cuddled.

Day 17: Unbalanced

This is a Bulgarian herd dog, aka a Karakachan.  She is a very good protector.  Never pet her EVER, she will bite your hand off!

Day 18: Frame within a Frame

My Grandfather, James

Day 19: Panorama

This is part of my house.  It was built in the 1800's, this is the oldest part and is obviously not lived in anymore.

Day 20: Depth

I wanted to go for a high fashion feel with the makeup and setting.

Day 21: Water Splash

It took FOREVER to get this shot!  We were throwing snow.  I somehow ended up throwing it on my camera, needless to say I then let my best friend, Nikita throw the snow!

Day 22: Slow Sync Flash

Day 23: Panning

I had only done panning once successful, see below.  It is really hard.  I still think I have only done it successfully once!

Day 24: Harris Shutter
I DIDN'T DO YET! I KNOW I'M HORRIBLE!

Day 25: Shallow DoF (This means Depth of Field)

My Grandmother.  She has Alzheimer's.  I waited until she forgot I was taking her picture, then I snapped.  After a couple of tries I got this awesome picture!

Day 26: Light Graffiti

This was fun! Happy Valentine's Day!

Day 27: Street Photography
It's hard to do Street Photography in the country!
Day 28: Architecture
I DIDN'T DO THIS ONE EITHER...
Day 29: Night
OR THIS ONE...
Day 30: Hidden Camera Mirror Photo
OR THIS ONE...
